Gold Standard

Blending elements natural and manmade, roughhewn and regal, Deborah Bushinski creates wearable compositions that celebrate the great outdoors in all its sumptuousness. To make this one-of-a-kind necklace, she gathers the dappled light and dark bark of fallen birch trees. Then, using the ancient Italian art of gilding, she applies delicate sheets of 23k gold leaf, fusing the thin layers of gleaming metal into place. To finish, she suspends each organic statement piece from 14k gold-filled chain. Handmade in Minnetonka, Minnesota.

Deborah Bushinski has been designing and creating birch jewelry for over 30 years. All of the current techniques that she uses have been developed by her during this time.In the beginning the jewelry was an extension of the painting she was doing, and her contribution to fashion, an area that always held Deborah's interest. During her years as a fine art studio painter and art wear clothing designer living in the Northern Minnesota woodlands, she spent time in the wild studying natural form. From there her design sensibility was honed. It is all about texture, color and composition; as each piece of jewelry is crafted with the immediacy of putting paint on canvas.
