Heart in the Right Place

Give the person who puts their heart and soul into every lovingly knitted keepsake the right tool to keep their inspiration flowing. Donna and Randall Rollins's hand-thrown ceramic crafting bowl keeps runaway balls of yarn in place, and features a heart-shaped opening that allows the thread to unfurl in a smooth and steady stream. The jewel-toned, drizzled glazes complement the hearty arrangement of gemstones at the front of the bowl. The artist uses two stones said to have powers that would benefit the avid crafter: mottled unakite jasper is believed to open the third eye, promote relaxation, and strengthen the heart; quartz crystal is thought to enhance the energy of whatever stone it's paired with and is believed to promote deep healing. Handmade in Sandtown, New Hampshire.

“I don’t think we’re just attracted to pottery by its beauty. There’s an energy there. That’s my philosophy.”

Donna E. Rollins' "aha" moment came to her in a dear friend's home. "I was admiring her stone collection and thought, 'How can I incorporate the healing benefits of crystals and minerals with my love for pottery?'" says the New Hampshire-based artist.

Along with her husband Randall and several staff members—including their daughters—Donna works to infuse their products with the positive energy of quartz. "It's in our clay and glazes," she says, adding that most of the crystals they set into the mug handles are quartz-based too. And though each creator has a slightly different style, they all have a common goal, says Donna: "Collectively, we create what becomes an individual's new favorite mug."
