In Perfect Taste

There's nothing like a clove or two of garlic to make your home cuisine burst with flavor. And there's nothing like this stoneware garlic grater to unlock that flavor to its fullest. Created by master potter Tony Holman, the French-style grater is hand thrown on a wheel in his studio, and finished with an earthy, stippled glaze. The spiral of ridges, resembling a fossilized fern or ancient seashell emerging from the clay, are not sharp to the touch, but rub a garlic clove back and forth across them for a few seconds, and you have fresh shredded garlic that's ready to add to your pasta sauce or casserole. Handmade in Plano, Texas.

Due to the handmade nature of this item, each is unique and will vary.

Master Potter Tony Holman began honing his pottery skills in 1978 at Indiana University and fine tuned them in 1980 at Bloomington Pottery. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at Indiana University in 1982 and a Master of Fine Arts degree at the University of North Texas in 1986.

The shapes of Tony's vessels are both functional and decorative. Close attention is paid to the finishing touches of this pottery. Because Holman Pottery is hand crafted, no two are exactly alike—lending beautiful variations of color, texture, and shape to each piece.

Perfect for garlic or ginger preparation. Easier than other devices (and no I don't own a truffle shaver to prep garlic). Due to it's ceramic design a breeze to clean without leaving residual orders. Bought a second for a friend who is a wiz at Italian cuisine, she loves it too !

Purchased two, one for home because we love herbed oil with bread, one for the office grab bag. My co-worker loved it, gave it with a bottle of olive oil a head of garlic and a loaf of bread.

They are beautiful and appear that they will be very helpful.

Comments about UncommonGoods Fossil Garlic Grater:

I've had one of these for about a year, and I use it often. I like it. However, it is NOT a garlic grater, but a kind of pulverizer or masher. When you rub the clove on the toothed area, the result is a juicy mash of garlic pulp that cannot easily be removed from the raised "grating" teeth. The only way to clear out the pulp is to add oil, which can then be added to your dish. I use this to make garlic-infused oil for dipping, adding to salads, or drizzling on hummus or raita. Just so you know what you are getting!
