Basalt & Pepper
Whatever is on the menu, it's going to rock when prepared and served in these earthy dishes. Ceramicist Lauren Herzak-Bauman found her inspiration for them in photos of basalt, a volcanic stone that forms in striking, angular columns. But instead of molten rock, Lauren uses porcelain slip casting in a hand-formed mold to produce the crystalline geometry of these bowls. The set of three is sturdy enough to use in food preparation, and a richly colored glaze is a visual treat at the table. When nested together, their sculptural beauty will make you want to keep them out for all to admire. Handmade in Lakewood, Ohio.
