To Have and to Hold

Close your eyes and think back to the last slow dance you shared with your loved one. The gentle sway and warm embrace of two people in love are captured in Melissa Gondek's heartwarming figurine. She describes the figures as giving and taking strength in equal measure, a sentimental representation of romantic partnership. Crafted from hydrostone, the figurine is finished in black with a sleek wax varnish, making it a subtle, elegant display to keep desk side or give to your partner for a holiday or anniversary. Handmade in Los Angeles, California.

“I want my art to be about the positive links that make us happier and more fulfilled. I like to think I'm bringing more smiles into the world.”

When asked why her artwork has spread with such enthusiasm, Melissa Gondek says, "because I'm sculpting love, and everyone needs more of that." She began by making mud pies as a little girl but swears she only ate one once. As an adult, she attended art classes at the Corcoran College of Art and Design and at the Art League School in Alexandria, Virginia, but allowed the pursuit of a practical degree to guide her years at the University of Virginia. After two decades in the business world, Melissa seized the opportunity of a cross-country move to reignite her creative passions. Her playful figures now keep people company in more than eleven countries across four continents, although Antarctica continues to elude her. She enjoys trying to foxtrot and railing against historically inaccurate fiction, although rarely at the same time. She gets entirely too sentimental about weddings, TV shows about lost pets, and the wild bunnies living in her backyard.
