Respect Your Elders
Elderberry has a rich history as a home remedy for various ailments. It's more than a folk hero, though: It's tasty. In California, where elder grows naturally, maker Katie Reneker crafts a refreshing cordial from its flowers, then turns to its berries, which she transforms into a deliciously sweet-tart syrup. Each concoction tastes heavenly in a cocktail or mixed with a bit of bubbly seltzer, and the cordial's nice drizzled over fresh fruit, too. Feeling adventurous? You can even try the syrup straight, like true medicine. Handmade in California.
