Expert baker Susan Palmer usually lends her culinary talents to people sweets, but this live virtual class is all about whipping up something extra-special for your canine companion.

  • This experience is just-right for any pooch parent—feel free to bring your pup to the class as sous chef.
  • Bake and decorate a scrumptious layer cake with ingredients that are irresistible to dogs (and kind to their tummies), like bananas, peanut butter, and yogurt.
  • While the cake is in the oven, you’ll make sweet potato biscuits that you can keep on hand whenever you want to give your pal a healthy, homemade snack.

About

Growing up on Long Island, New York, cooking and music were two of Susan Palmer's biggest influences. After earning a degree in orchestral percussion, she pivoted back to the culinary arts in her early 20s. In 2012, she won a Brooklyn cookie competition and her cooking blog started gaining traction. It was then that she knew her hobby could become her career. Now, she has a booming business selling sweet treats she makes with a pastry assistant in her commercial kitchen in Brooklyn.

You'll need oat flour, bananas, unsweetened applesauce, natural unsweetened peanut butter, eggs, coconut oil, Greek yogurt, whole oats, sweet potato or pumpkin puree, baked ahead a of class, ground cinnamon, natural food coloring including blue or green spirulina or pitaya powder (dragon fruit) or freeze-dried strawberry, blueberry or raspberry that have been ground into a powder (optional). You'll also need two 4-inch or 6-inch cake tins or cupcake pan with liners, mixing bowls, a rolling pin, a small cookie cutter, silicon spatulas or wooden spoons, and a potato masher or fork. *Please avoid anything with added sugar and make sure your peanut butter and applesauce do not contain the sweetener called xylitol, as it is dangerous for dogs.
