Stephanie Carter has a simple mission as an artist: “I hope I can make you smile,” she says. As the purveyor of adorable pet portraits, she’s accomplishing that mission quite well. The Vancouver resident started her career illustrating for a local newspaper and went on to work in advertising and art licensing, but a kitty changed her forever. “I once had a cat named Scriddy who lived until she was 19,” she says. When she got married, she says Scriddy unfortunately didn’t take well to her husband. “As a result I am banned from cat ownership. Thus I must live vicariously through my artwork,” says the designer. And while she loves her puppy and guinea pig, she has a decided preference: “Long live felines!,” she jokes.
