Born in the wilds of Vermont and raised in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley, artist Sarah Nicholas Williams developed an early bond with the woodland creatures who scurried through her backyard and into her imagination. As a girl, she refused to be anything other than a well-dressed lady mouse for Halloween; today, as an adult with a little one of her own, her fanciful watercolor paintings still embrace her fervor for these charming critters and display the curious scenarios that occupy her active imagination.
Sarah's son Gustavo helped the artist put the finishing touches on this cozy scene of a mouse dozing peacefully in her garden burrow. "You need a door," Tavo said, "or how else will she get in?"
Reminiscent of classic illustrated tales by Beatrix Potter (Peter Rabbit), Jean de Brunhoff (Babar), and Ernest Shepard (Winnie the Pooh and The Wind in the Willows), Sarah's whimsical works prompt viewers to delve into her storied words and to create spectacular narratives of their own.
Her original India ink and watercolor illustration is rendered in fantastic detail in this high-quality print. Printed on enhanced matte paper and framed in gray wood in the USA.
