Green Living

Born in the wilds of Vermont and raised in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley, artist Sarah Nicholas Williams developed an early bond with the woodland creatures who scurried through her backyard and into her imagination. As a girl, she refused to be anything other than a well-dressed lady mouse for Halloween; today, as an adult with a little one of her own, her fanciful watercolor paintings still embrace her fervor for these charming critters and display the curious scenarios that occupy her active imagination.

Sarah's son Gustavo helped the artist put the finishing touches on this cozy scene of a mouse dozing peacefully in her garden burrow. "You need a door," Tavo said, "or how else will she get in?"

Reminiscent of classic illustrated tales by Beatrix Potter (Peter Rabbit), Jean de Brunhoff (Babar), and Ernest Shepard (Winnie the Pooh and The Wind in the Willows), Sarah's whimsical works prompt viewers to delve into her storied words and to create spectacular narratives of their own.

Her original India ink and watercolor illustration is rendered in fantastic detail in this high-quality print. Printed on enhanced matte paper and framed in gray wood in the USA.

Sarah Nicholas Williams has lived with her watercolor creations since she was a child and year after year refused to be anything other than a well-dressed lady mouse for Halloween.

Born in the wilderness of Vermont and raised in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley, Sarah developed a deep bond with the creatures of moonlight and mountains who ran freely through her back yard and into her imagination.

She received her technical training in sculpture and painting from Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts and absorbs daily inspiration from her son Gustavo and his favorite books.

Comments about UncommonGoods Cozy Beneath the Garden:

My two grandchildren love to read, and I notice that Miss Bunny does, too, as she has a stack of books by her bed. Art and books are important aspects of anyone's life, so this is the perfect picture to display in a home with or without children!

I ordered the framed version. It came very well packaged. The frame and matting finish it nicely.
I read many reviews that people were putting this in a nursery. I on the other hand loved the whimsy and colors, and am using it for my kitchen. Beautiful artist, beautiful print! You will love this one!!

The new baby doesn't arrive until November. I can't wait until Mommy, Daddy, and big sister see this beautiful piece! And when "Blinky" gets old enough to appreciate all the beautiful vegetables and fruit his/her Daddy grows in his garden, there will be lots of opportunities for stories - fanciful and "down to earth".

Comments about UncommonGoods Cozy Beneath the Garden:

bought this print for my daughter for a Mother's Day gift when she was expecting her first child. My daughter loves to garden so this print was perfect for their baby's room. The frame is very nice and complements the print-well worth the additional cost. I would love to see more forms this artist!

This print provides endless opportunities for storytelling and discovering... We have one ongoing story about the sleeping mouse, and several impromptu stories that seem to reveal my child's mood and sense of fun!
Now I find myself wondering about the secret world under my OWN garden, and enjoy my own imagination!
      Just plain fun...
