Made in California

“I painted rocks and would sell them on the most rural road you can imagine. My parents would pay the neighbors to come buy from me. You name it I would dream it.”

Some passions manifest themselves early on. Such was the case for Elan McPherson, who from childhood could be found experimenting with both pottery and entrepreneurship. “I painted rocks and made rock men and would then sell them on the most rural road you can imagine,” she recalls.

Though her career initially led her to work on restaurant interiors and then a line of furniture, it wasn’t long before Elan veered back into ceramics, hand-glazing and embellishing a line of North American-made kitchen accessories. As colorful as they are clever, her designs (noodle bowls with built-in chopstick pockets, plates equipped with handy thumb handles) frequently prompt the reaction she most likes to hear: “Why didn’t I think of that?”

For people with hand and wrist pain from Arthritis this is the perfect bowl for foods that are not extremely hot. Easier than trying to hold a little nub of a handle or balance a too wide saucer. Love my Buddha Bowls.

I bought a pair of these to replace the Udon Noodle Bowls made by the same company, which had a tiny, hard-to-grasp handle and completely useless chopstick rests that sent sticks flying. These bowls have the same gorgeous turquoise glaze and an appealing shape, plus an easier-to-grasp handle.

The only trouble is that the interior of the bowl where the handle is carved out has crevices that trap food, making it hard to get every last bite. Also, the shape of the crevice, well... it looks like a bottom! Which may be a bonus, if you're looking for a dinner party conversation piece, I suppose...

Luckily this was bought for my partner. It fits in his perfectly. Even better for him, it does not fit my child sized hands comfortably. I wouldn't recommend this for children or petite teens and adults.

Comments about UncommonGoods Buddha Cupping Bowl:

My husband loves this bowl, but he noticed that it does get very, very hot when eating hot foods. he had hoped it would handle the heat a little better. Even so, it is a great bowl, very comfortable to eat from while holding if the food isn't too hot.
