Getting Some Air

Not known for your green thumb? Now you, too, can craft a tiny terrarium of your own. Made by Takuma Nitta, who re-discovered a love for nature after his Japanese hometown was hit by a natural disaster, this stylish do-it-yourself kit contains everything you need to make an air plant feel at home, from reindeer moss to sand to… well, an air plant—and with each component packed separately, you're free to arrange them at will. Meanwhile, minimal care requirements mean the little green guy won't perish, as long as you show him a little bit o' love. A great way to liven up a sunny desktop or add some zest to a window sill, and a great way to help Takuma pay tribute to Ishinomaki City. Made in the US, with China, Japan, and New Zealand in supporting roles.

Due to the nature of this item, each is unique and will vary.

location

Japan

Takuma Nitta hails from Ishinomaki City in the Miyagi Prefecture of Japan. In 2011, he was one of the many victims of the earthquake and tsunami that hit the country. After the disaster, Takuma moved to Tokyo and began to recognize the importance of nature’s connection to society. Takuma’s terrariums have helped him bring trees and other greenery to disaster-affected areas in Japan, Philippines, Africa, and Bangladesh, helping to bridge the gap between people’s lives and the environment.

Care
Air Plants will become dry and will need to be sprayed with water 1-3 times a week. They benefit from overnight soaks in water and will not be harmed from over watering. After watering, Air Plants should be given enough light and air circulation to dry in four hours or less. We recommend placing your Air Plant near a window with some direct sun light. Keep your Air Plant in warm conditions. They thrive in a temperature range of 50-90 degrees.

Comments about UncommonGoods Brass Box Terrarium Kit:

This was a gift for my green-thumb husband for while he's staying at a fort for a military training. I wanted him to have a taste of home with our bevy of plants and his interest and success in gardening. This gives him a reminder of when he gets home, and was easy to transport and assemble. Plus, a little oxygen with very little effort-perfect!!
