California

“I wanted to make something that would not only relate to the wine industry, but would respect nature and the wood that had been harvested.”

There’s no shortage of beautiful scenery in Napa Valley. But when longtime wine enthusiast Bob Yates moved to northern California, his eye honed in not on the lush valleys or panoramic vistas, but on the heaps of weathered wine barrels he spotted during winery visits. “There should be a way to transform these discarded barrels to get more use from the many trees that were destroyed to make them,” he thought.

And so he created one, channeling a 30-year woodworking hobby to turn end-of-life wine barrels into a line of home goods. “I wanted to make something that would respect nature and the wood that had been harvested,” he says. To this end, his designs–which range from barrel tables to flight staves–are both decorative and functional. “I want people to use and enjoy them,” he says, “not just look at them.”

It took 3 shipments to get 4 glasses. Reported the packing problem and the 3rd package was wrapped in bubble wrap but the glass wrapping was unchanged. There was a small sleeve of thin bubble wrap on each glass and the botom of each glass was inside the mouth of the next one. Poor, poor packaging. Very wasteful for a company that offers recycled products.

This was a gift for my husband's bar that he is finishing in our basement. Our son gave him one set for Christmas; I am giving him three more sets for his birthday. He loves entertaining and having guests try new beer.

This is the perfect gift for my husband who brews his own beer and keeps several on tap at a time. People are always coming over for tastings, and these sampling glasses are a beautiful way to showcase his creations. He loves the handmade, reused barrel serving pedestal and the glasses are a good size for sampling.

Comments about UncommonGoods Beer Tasting Flight:

I am a dedicated girlfriend who tries to make her boyfriend enjoy his birthday against his will. After opening his gift (the other part was a flight also from Uncommon Goods), he immediately liked the design. We use it for personal beers and for parties. Love the earthiness of the rock and the concept of bringing the outdoors into our home. The only downside I could see is that it could hurt someone if used inappropriately due to its heaviness.

Purchased this flier for my brother that home brews and is now opening a business. Thought a flier would be appropriate for his birthday and his business venture. When he received it, he said it was "AWESOME" and that he loved it.

Comments about UncommonGoods Beer Tasting Flight:

My hubby is a beer geek to the umpteenth degree. He is so hard to buy for, esp when it comes to beer related products. One thing he did not have for our home bar was a tasting flight. This was so unique and attractive I figured what the heck. It arrived very securely packaged, no broken glass. And he was very happy when he unwrapped it, I could tell right away it was a winner. The curved wood makes it easy to grip and carry. He loved that you could see a band where the red wine had stained the barrel. Big winner all around.

Comments about UncommonGoods Beer Tasting Flight:

I'm not the least bit worried about the quality or workmanship of the Beer Flight. Uncommon Goods has never sold me something I haven't loved. This is a gift and therfore I haven't opened it. The box doesn't rattle when I shake it so I'm not worried.

I am even less worried that my hombrew associate, for whom this is a gift, will be completely and utterly enthralled

                Service and delivery comments:

The reason I am writing this is that the Flight made it to us in South America in a record five days with not a scratch or ding to the box. It arrived a full month before the pair of shoes that I ordered for my wife, the same day, showed up. That might just be the luck of the draw with the Post Office but I would like to think it is all the Good Juju that Uncommon Goods has built up by doing the right thing and not selling Junk.
I will continue to browse the catalog and order, confident that what arrives is what I wanted and that the Postal Fairy has nothing but good things to say about UG.
