Nice Try, Tough Guy

Strength and pride. Tears of joy (and fatigue). A love of beer, barbeque, and rocking out. A symbolic look inside a father's heart reveals many things, bound together by the love every family man feels. Celebrating the ups and downs of fatherhood, Sandra Dumais' playful screen print offers a perspective that's sweetly satirical and refreshingly honest. Inspired by her own misadventures as a parent, Sandra uses her hand sketching, painting, and digital drawing skills to create a narrative interplay of words and images. Her heartfelt tribute to fatherhood's endearing imperfections is an opportunity to show any dad that you understand how tough and tender his heart can be. Handmade in Montreal, Canada.

“I believe there is a story in everything, and often draw inspiration in the mundane.”

Sandra Dumais' work is inspired by her childhood, children, and the "funny, tender world" around her. "I believe there is a story in everything, and often draw inspiration in the mundane," she says. She took to drawing at a young age, making books out of the musty rolls of wallpaper she found in her linen closet. Her artworks feature a mix of illustration, painting, and digital drawing, culminating in pieces that weave tales through words and images.

I bought this as a Father's Day gift for my husband and it's perfect! It came wrapped in tissue paper inside a tube and was pristine. The artwork is original, creative and a one-of-a-kind. So much better than a tie! ;)

Father's Day Gift for My Husband

Comments about UncommonGoods Anatomy of a Father's Heart Screen Print:

This was what I expected. I was hoping the paper would have some kind of texture, but it is still good, very sturdy. The overall size of the print is pretty large, the heart itself could be larger, as the writing is pretty small. It is a cute print though, and so many of my husband's traits are listed on it, that it was a perfect Father's Day gift from my grown children to their step dad. I was having a hard time finding a frame that I liked for the 12" x 16" size. My daughter found the kind of "floating" frame where the print is inserted between 2 pieces of glass, and has about a 1" glass border around the print. It worked perfectly.
He loved it and made him tear up. The perfect present!
