Home is where the heart is in maker Cathy Nichols' art piece, "A Song for You." Perched on a bedside table or displayed above the hearth, this bright work welcomes guests and family alike. Her unique brushstrokes and vibrant archival ink hues bring the blossoming tree, cheerfully petite house, and sweet birdsong in this art panel to life. This design is mounted on a birch panel with a wire hanger for simple decorating. Handmade in North Carolina.

Cathy Nichols knew she was an artist when she stood before a blank canvas and tore up her applications to law school. “Since then, my paintings have become a place for me to restore the sense of wonder, love, and joy I remember from childhood,” she says. “A space left open for magic.” Using encaustic, a medium made of beeswax, the North Carolina painter has charmed collectors across the country, including actress Julia Roberts. But when she thinks of her pieces on a wall, she simply hopes they “spark conversation and bring people together.” As she imagines: “A guest asks, ‘What's this painting made of? Why does it smell so good?" And the owner replies with a twinkle in her eye, ‘It's beeswax! First she melts it, then she uses it as paint! This piece always reminds me that our house is ruled by love.’”
