Not only is Brooklyn our home, it\u2019s also home to some incredibly talented artists.<\/p>\n<p>Instead of letting all the Brooklyn pride well up until we burst, we decided to gush about a few of the artists that help make this borough great!<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re kicking-off our \u201cMade in Brooklyn\u201d series with two local jewelry designers, <a title=\"Yayoi Inada\" href=\"http:\/\/www.uncommongoods.com\/artist?19020\" target=\"_blank\">Yayoi Inada<\/a>, whose pieces contain little reminders to slow down (definitely something that can come in handy in a busy city like New York!) and<a title=\"Nguyen Le\" href=\"http:\/\/www.uncommongoods.com\/artist?17540\" target=\"_blank\"> Nguyen Le<\/a>, who blends classic jewelry pieces with soft, knit accents.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.uncommongoods.com\/product\/message-in-a-bottle-necklace?source=blog\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-4367\" title=\"20192_necklace\" src=\"https:\/\/www.uncommongoods.com\/blog\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/20192_necklace-548x548.jpg\" alt=\"Message in a Bottle\" width=\"548\" height=\"548\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.uncommongoods.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/20192_necklace-548x548.jpg 548w, https:\/\/www.uncommongoods.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/20192_necklace-125x125.jpg 125w, https:\/\/www.uncommongoods.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/20192_necklace-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.uncommongoods.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/20192_necklace.jpg 900w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 548px) 100vw, 548px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Yayoi Inada\u2019s home base here in Brooklyn may be geographically distant from her birthplace near a small forest in Japan, but she gathers inspiration from both her new home and her old.<\/p>\n<p>She was raised in Kyoto and Osaka, Japan, where, despite the bustle of the city, people\u2019s lives are very intertwined with nature. She says that observing nature\u2019s beauty has always given her a \u201ccalm and complete feeling.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After working in the busy world of advertising in Tokyo, Yayoi decided to follow her passion to express her artistic side and moved to New York to Study jewelry design at the Fashion Institute of Technology.<\/p>\n<p>Now she meticulously handcrafts each of her sterling silver pieces in her Brooklyn studio. She specializes in hand-etching and detailed wax carving, and uses these skills to share messages like <a title=\"Reminder, Breathe\" href=\"http:\/\/www.uncommongoods.com\/product\/reminder-breathe-necklace?source=blog\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cReminder, Breathe\u201d<\/a> and <a title=\"Today and Always\" href=\"http:\/\/www.uncommongoods.com\/product\/love-letter-necklace?source=blog\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cToday and Always.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.uncommongoods.com\/product\/leaves-berry-knit-necklace?source=blog\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-4364\" title=\"19296_StoneNecklaceGreen\" src=\"https:\/\/www.uncommongoods.com\/blog\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/19296_StoneNecklaceGreen-548x730.jpg\" alt=\"Leaves &amp; Berry Knit Necklace\" width=\"548\" height=\"730\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.uncommongoods.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/19296_StoneNecklaceGreen-548x730.jpg 548w, https:\/\/www.uncommongoods.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/19296_StoneNecklaceGreen-300x400.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 548px) 100vw, 548px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Nguyen Le takes also takes influences from nature while living and working in the city. She blends the age-old traditions of knitting and felting with hard materials such as wood and metal.<\/p>\n<p>Brooklyn provides a great backdrop for the artist, who says she\u2019s inspired by everything around her, and loves to knit things that wouldn\u2019t normally be \u201csoftly-made.\u201d Her sister, who \u201cisn\u2019t very girly,\u201d inspired one of Nguyen\u2019s most recognizable pieces, the <a title=\"Power Cord\" href=\"http:\/\/www.uncommongoods.com\/product\/knitted-power-cord-necklace?source=blog\" target=\"_blank\">Power Cord Necklace<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Other pieces, such as her<a title=\"Stone &amp; Cluster\" href=\"http:\/\/www.uncommongoods.com\/product\/stone-cluster-necklace?source=blog\" target=\"_blank\"> Stone &amp; Cluster Necklace<\/a>, handmade from twisted ebony wood, chalk turquoise and white merino wool felted beads, and her <a title=\"Berry &amp; Pods\" href=\"http:\/\/www.uncommongoods.com\/product\/berry-pods-wood-necklace?source=blog\" target=\"_blank\">Berry &amp; Pods Wood Necklace<\/a>, featuring wood beads, a merino wool berry and wool and rayon blend pods, are prime examples of how the artist mixes textures to create attention-getting pieces.<\/p>\n<p>Any Brooklynites reading this?
