Marshall Grinstead

Marshall Grinstead is a mechanical engineer who's worked on everything from bomb disposal robots to cell phones, but he began his toy-design career at age eight, when he started looking for a way to make card houses that wouldn't fall down. With help from some college friends, he created Skallops, a creativity-enhancing construction toy. Skallops let kids and adults alike intuitively learn concepts like trusses and bracing from engineering while creating their card sculptures. Skallops have been featured in design blogs including Core77, AIGA, and WIRED. "I love inventing things that are simple and elegant in design, but limitless in application. I hope kids have as much fun building with Skallops as we did creating them." - Marshall Grinstead
