Samantha says: I have
several cephalopod designs and a few of them are created to
allow for a resting place for a spoon. This design is wheel thrown, trimmed, and hand built.
I am a Florida native who grew up in the water. I went to Florida Atlantic University to fulfill obligations to my scholarships. Little did I know that I would find the most wonderful outlet of clay there. I received my BFA in Ceramics in 2011 and have been slinging mud ever since.
My work relates directly to my passion for the nautical world around me and its ever impressive natural patterns. It is a melodic effort to mimic what nature does and similar to throwing the objects on the wheel it is a type of ritualistic way to create.
More than having a visual pattern, my work allows for a full blown tactile experience to go along with the happening of your food or drink. The taste or smell of chamomile tea for example, combined with the feel of the vessel on your lips; simply opens the user to a more meditative experience.
