David says: This design was built around the vintage bins. They're from a now closed shoe factory where they were staged below the sewing machine stations as drop and pick up boxes for the seamstresses. The lumber used is from an old brewery in St. Louis, MO, where my shop is located. The simplistic design of the steel frame allows for the lower shelf and bins to be suspended from the upper shelf while maintaining a rigid structure. look.
I am the owner, designer and builder of Shellback Iron Works. Shellback comes from a Maritime tradition when a sailor crosses the equator, and I spent several years as an engineer and metal fabricator aboard commercial ships all over the world. My goal is to use the styles and designs I've taken in through my travels, and build unique furniture using blacksmithing and metal work combined with woods and fabrics. And as often as possible, build my designs around pieces as rich in history as these vintage bins.
