This is the perfect item for someone who is a big fan of art, literature, and Halloween! We love that Lisa gave this recycled book a charming touch by displaying her own illustrations. Would you prop this book up for your trick-or-treaters?

It's fun, and you have some great skills, but once you're done looking at it, there's not much else to do with it. It seems like it needs something more enigmatic, or mysterious to make people go 'wow! that's amazing!' Maybe some crazy, silvery handwritten poetry around the black surface that embodies the magic of whatever holiday? The idea would be to make the story BIG so it jumps out of the book and off of the page. Like a really good movie. This, right now, makes me feel like there's a little old lady inside half asleep and not much is going on. Like maybe if there was a wicked witch flying out of the front, with that in the background? Or maybe even a ghost shyly peeking out from around the corner?

I like the dimensional aspect of this, I haven't seen that technique before, and the thought put into the words on the page behind the house. However, I feel like drawing on recycled book pages is kind of a fad right now and is readily available.

I like this but does it hang on a wall? Will it stand up?

Thanks to everyone for the votes and comments! This piece has a wire loop to hang on a wall and is thick enough to stand on its own. To make the description more clear, this is a vintage book turned into a shadow box type frame. The art inside is a drawing mounted on scrap basswood, cut out by hand, then embellished with more of my tiny drawings and arranged in the frame. I have established relationships with used book sellers, bibliophiles and libraries to purchase books they can't find readers for. I only use books destined for the dumpster.
