PRODUCT STORY
MG says: With pastel and charcoal I depict everyday scenes on the local newspaper. For example when I go into Washington DC to sketch all the images on the Washington Post. When in Philadelphia, I've use the Daily News. The pieces that I've shared with you for this competition I've focused on depicting moments in sports with expressive lines and vibrant colors. The response to this series has been overwhelming.

So why are these paintings done on newspaper? I preserve and safeguard a historically significant document and the material is conversant with the images being depicted

Newspapers have been the connective tissue keeping communities linked in and informed for ages. Enter the World Wide Web. It is rapidly shifting how we get our information and changing the physical landscape as well. We are becoming more and more paperless. Virtual communication is rapidly replacing newspapers and face time with twenty-four hour ticker lines and texts. YIKES!

These works are a celebration of community and the newspapers that unite them.

MG says, " Newspapers have been the connective tissue keeping communities linked in and informed for ages." We love the idea of capturing this age-old, but disappearing, medium and immortalizing it in art. Do you think "Golden Gloves" should be our design challenge champion?

I like the idea of preserving the worthwhile-ness of actual printed forms of communication and the correlation between art and the printed word. Kinda old fashioned of me but I'm good with that.

I like the concept and the intent to paint a picture that compliments the printed story but would enjoy a more obvious connection.

This pops! Love the idea of "newspaper art" How creative. Let's hope newspapers aren't a dying art.
