Designer and architect Stig Ahlström was hosting an outdoor party, when a leaf from a nearby tree fluttered down and landed on the table--and inspiration struck. Ahlström wanted to capture that organic form, that lightness and that sense of delight in a form that had its own place at the table.

The result is this extraordinary leaf dish. Part artwork, part serving basket, it's a functional centerpiece that can be filled with fresh fruit, homemade bread, or even a bouquet of cut flowers. The leaf-like form is created from two pieces, locked in place using just gravity, that can easily be separated to store flat in a drawer or cupboard. Thin strips of natural bamboo evoke the veins of a leaf, running from the central spine out to the rounded edges. To best preserve the look and longevity of the wood, it is recommended that you rub it with a polishing oil, and hand wash only. Made in China.
Each Part: approx. 15" L x 8" W
Assembled: approx. 15" L x 11" W x 3.25" H
Hand wash

I'm somewhat on the fence with this piece. I love the design - clean, attractive, comes apart to clean and store flat, seems to lock together well while in use. However... I have concerns regarding the glues used to piece together the bamboo, and would not feel comfortable using it to serve food. Might be nice for display instead of another decorative bowl though.
