PRODUCT STORY
There's loving your neighborhood, and then loving your neighborhood so much you want to immortalize it any way you can. Designer and "change maker" Aymie Spitzer falls into the latter category. In fact she loves neighborhoods so much, as well as vintage maps, that she's hand drawing and laser engraving them into unfinished aromatic cedar. And not just her neighborhood in Brooklyn, but neighborhoods across the country. The cedar's natural wood grain sets off the engraved typography, and captures the magic of these hand-lettered creations. Each map she makes is unique, just like the stories you carry with you around your 'hood! Aymie designs at Hyperakt, a Brooklyn studio where product ideas are incubated and brought to the market.

The notion of showing off our "neighborwood" in wooden wall art made us smile, and we think Aymie's design appeals not only to Brooklynites, but also to folks across the country who'd love to see their hometowns celebrated in ceder. What do you think?

I love that each piece of the neighborhood was drawn by hand and then lovingly engraved. The passion for both a sense of place and the craft are apparent here!

Who doesn't like a good pun to go with a great map? Always a conversation starter, this map not only looks great but smells great. It makes me want to explore the borough more and check off each of the neighborhoods listed on the map!

There is no better way to get a sense for a city on a map than to see it's neighborhood tapestry. Neighborwoods is such a beautiful reminder of the special places in the cities that have touched our lives. Love!

Wow, these negative comments are completely unconstructive and blithely malicious. There is a person behind each of these pieces, not a feelingless corporate entity. You wouldn't say something so cruel and unhelpful to an artist's face. You should afford them the same courtesy here.

I came from a really tiny town in the midwest that does not have named neighborhoods. Unless you made a map of who owned each quarter of farmland, there would be no way to create this type of map about my 'hood. This makes me sad. The woodworking done here is ABSOLUTELY beautiful!!!!
