Sand Tea Timer

Brewer beware, your tea will become bitter if you do not stare!

From the minute you drop the teabag in hot water the countdown begins, so why not take the guesswork out of tea steeping and tip over this easy-to-use timer instead. This ingenious device allows you to track the strength of your tea by the color of the shifting sands rather than the opacity of your water. For light flavor, keep your eye on the green timer, for slightly stronger flavor watch the red timer, and for strong, robust flavor, watch the yellow timer--hourglasses keep three, four and five minutes, respectively. This vibrant, battery-free timepiece lets you keep track of your tea without any obtrusive bells and whistles, so you'll be able to enjoy a quiet cup without waking up the rest of the house.

While this timer may be intended for steeping the perfect cup, it can also be used for many other purposes; flip it over to track the doneness of boiled eggs, the strength of French press coffee, to help your child learn the concept of time, to time exercise sets, and more! How would you use this vivacious timer? Made in China.

Like sands through the hourglass, these are the strengths of our teas. Whether you like just a splash of flavor or a robust drink, this timer can help you brew the perfect cup. Is it time we add this device to our assortment?

It would be awesome if this came in some other color options. Maybe some more muted/soothing colors.

As a serious tea drinker I can tell you that the times here are very general, not really good enough for steeping tea.

Thanks for the feedback, Liane. Why do you say that the times are too general? They are 3 minutes (light), 4 minutes (medium), and 5 minutes (strong). How could this be improved for serious tea drinkers?

Really cool idea. I'm always forgetting when I put the tea on.

Given how into tea people seem to be these days, this would be a nice companion gift to some of the other tea gifts. Agree that. Ore soothing colors would be better, perhaps tea colors that correspond to the strength of the tea?

Being an avid tea drinker- this would be a neat gift to receive (instead of always getting tea!) And it's very reasonably priced.

I agree the colors could be more muted but I think it is a great gift for that tea lover on your list and you can't beat the price.

Like it, price is reasonable, it's cute. Not entirely sure it's worth having yet another item as well, but good for tea-themed gifts. Rather it not be Made in China, though.

Seems to me like the colors are backwards. If you've chosen standard stoplight colors, why are they in the wrong order?

I LOVE the concept, but I do not like the design details. The colors are ugly too.

Nice idea and thought behind the piece but it just doesn't look good. I would not want to use this and I would not want to gift it to any tea drinkers I know. Besides all of that what about those people who like tea stronger then strong? It is too general and doesn't take into account the different types of tea people drink.

This was neat, sorry I missed the chance to vote. Not a tea drinker, but would totally use it as a timer for my homeschooled son, or even for myself. We're both ADD and time seems to escape us often.

China - didn't we cover this?

January 05, 2012 09:07:55 AM

Yep, I like this. Price is on the money, too! Great idea since it can "time" other things besides tea.
