PRODUCT STORY
Ceramics Design Challenge Entry

Kyla Toomey compares working with clay to working with fabric. This ideology is evident in her Button Series.

Each handmade mug is $40 and each bowl is $25.

We're intrigued by how these mugs and bowls appear to drape like fabric, but are actually glazed ceramic.

while it is an interesting ceramic experiment and clearly shows the talent of the artist, it's not something I want in my kitchen cabinet. I'd admire it at a museum.

I like how the fine detail of the mugs give a sort of paper illusion.

it would be helpful if you gave dimensions or ounces for items that hold food or liquid. It is impossible to guage size

My small hands love to embrace a cup filled with a warm beverage. In holding onto this cup in such a manner, the texture - or even lack therein - is very important to me. This cup does not offer my hands the 'comfort' that they seek in the holding of therein.

Thanks for all of the questions and comments for Kyla Toomey's Button Series! Since these pieces are all handmade, the size does vary. The mugs in the image range from 8-12 ounces. Each is about 4 inches in diameter and between 3-5 inches tall. The bowls also vary in size, but they are small bowls perfect for ice cream or snacks. Each is approximately 4 inches in diameter and 3 inches tall.
