PRODUCT STORY
Ceramics Design Challenge Entry

Mari Ogihara slip-casts each napkin ring using a plaster mold. She then cuts patterns and adds color so each piece is one-of-a-kind. The napkin rings would retail for $45 each or $165 for a set of four.

Mari says, "I take enjoyment in dressing each shard with a couture decoration to fit its unique shape."

And we enjoy thinking about setting these napkin rings out at our next dinner party!

Mari Ogihara's handmade napkin rings earned a place in our Uncommon Ceramics Design Challenge thanks to their lovely texture, bold colors, and unique design. Are they ringers for the next round? Share your vote and let us know whether this design should be the next uncommon good.

I don't exactly like the price, but I understand since they are hand painted and all.

I love the design and details but the price is way too high. Plus, who buys just 1 napkin ring? Maybe the price should be for a set of 2?

I work in the handicrafts industry and can totally appreciate the time, work and talent that went into these. However, $45 each is pretty steep and I wouldn't pay it.

I think this product is sophisticated and would make for a pretty looking table.

these are beautiful and the cost reflects the fact that they are hand painted, but too costly for my budget.

As an artist myself, I understand about the cost of materials and paying yourself a decent wage, but this is truly over priced!

not at all practical, they would break with the first use. combine this with the extravagant (for a napkin ring) price and it's a no-go for me.

I actually thought these were cute, until I saw the price. I don't think the skill level or idea is profound enough to deserve that price.

I find these disturbing for some reason. Maybe it is the shiny coral/shell interior? Maybe the fish-scale lace color decoration? Not appetizing on my dinner table, though clearly the artist has talent.

They would have to be spectacular napkin rings to justify a price of $45.

they are really cool but i would never pay $45 for a napkin ring, even if it was solid gold.

I like these and they are handmade but I wonder if you will sell very many at this price point. How much is the average person willing to spend on napkin rings?

I thought this was $45 for a set of four - that I could see, but $165 for a set of four? Crazy.

A little pricy for ceramic napkin rings

Jessica

November 15, 2011 12:38:42 PM

WAY TOO EXPENSIVE!!!!! If they were $30-$45 per set of four I would buy them... But do they come in other colors?

They look a lot like seafood. I'd buy them if I owned a beach house.
