Lola Granny Glass Necklace

PRODUCT STORY
The granny glass charm was designed in 3D and assembled by hand using chains, lasercut glass for the lenses and hinges for a fun and functional look.

We named the piece Lola after my grandma, which translates into "grandmother" in Tagalog, language of the Philippines, where my family is from.

The design idea came about from my love of reading glasses and sunglasses. My partner and I wanted to incorporate functionality in our jewelry designs so we designed this piece with glass lenses and move-able arms.

Congrats to Jennifer Monzon, for being a semi-finalist in the Uncommon Jewelry Design Challenge. What do you think of her granny-spectacled pendant?

Creative yet at the same time most people who are older and wear Real glasses tend to sport a similar style or most of the older women in my family anyway by wearing a necklace type chain attached to the glasses earpieces in order to keep up with their glasses. This is way to expensive for this in my opinion and I am of the thought that it would not sell very well as many people do not like wearing glasses or being reminded that they do.

Made me smile; though not for me. Would be a cute charm if not so expensive, but understandable being handmade.

It's a cute play on the actual granny glasses on the chain style... but with a fun, interactive, classy "jewelry-ized" twist! Love it!

Not something that I would buy. Reading glasses already make me feel old, why would I wear jewelry to remind that I need them! Sunglasses lenses might make them more appealing. Also, way to expensive.

Cute and creative idea. I wear spectacles, but I also change up from time to time and wear contacts. Eyeglasses can add a fashion statement to one's outfit or they can be used as an accessory...depends on what look you're going for.

I can't even tell you how many versions of this kind of necklace I have seen before. It's a somewhat upscale version given that mostly teenagers wear those kinds of necklaces (a la with moustachios). It's a cute idea, but I also just can't see how it would look while worn...seems clunky

Thanks for all the votes comments! As the designer for this piece, I wanted to address the feedback in pricing. A lot of work went into creating these handmade miniature sized glasses (1 1/2 inches in size) with blue-sapphire glass lenses (the same kind used for high end timepieces). The lenses are custom cut with move-able hinged arms are plated in 22K gold, rose gold or sterling silver. It is 27" inches in length was designed to be a play on life-size granny glasses.

I love these, especially in silver. But, I'm not sure I could spend that much money! I love the story behind them. And I'd love to see a picture of them on a model, but I really can't afford them, however chic, and vintage they are.

Thanks for the question, Elinore! These are handmade, miniature glasses. The artist, Jennifer Monzon, jumped in the comments section on Friday to share a bit more about her design (thanks, Jennifer!) According to the artist, the glasses are 1 1/2 inches in size and feature blue-sapphire glass lenses. A great deal of work goes in to making these little glasses look like the real deal. The arms are even movable!

If you want to accessorize with glasses on a chain there are much cheaper and colorful ways to do it, though I know that's not the point.
