Uncommon Knowledge: One gram of charcoal has nearly the surface area of a tennis court! That's because charcoal is filled with microscopic cavities - so many, in fact, that they can trap odor-causing chemicals from the air. This specially designed Chikuno Cube uses a honey-comb structure to maximize this power - creating a surprisingly effective air freshener for your refrigerator, closet or other enclosed space. Can be "recharged" each month by leaving it in the sun for six hours. Reusable for up to a year. Do not use where Chikuno Cube could get wet (i.e. the shower). Made in Kyoto, Japan. Winner of the 2008 Japanese Good Design Award.

On July 6, 1969, Apollo 11 launched from the Kennedy Space Center at Cape Canaveral, Florida. Fourteen days later, Commander Neal Armstrong made history, becoming the first human to walk on the surface of the moon.

Fisher, the official pen maker for NASA's space voyages, has created a unique opportunity to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of that historic event by producing a limited number of exact replicas of the AG-7 Space Pen carried on the Apollo 11. The black titanium nitride finish is enhanced with a 24-karat gold engraving of Commander Armstrong planting the American flag on the lunar surface.

Beyond even that, the pen's most astonishing detail is that, sealed in an acrylic dome in the pen's cap, is an actual, authenticated piece of the Apollo 11 spacecraft. A material known as Kapton - it served as thermal insulation for the command module Columbia.

Each keepsake pen comes with a specially designed display case, which includes full documentation of authenticity, as well as a polyurethane casting of Armstrong's first step, a timeline of the mission's key events engraved on a band of rhodium plated stainless steel, and a magnetic pedestal for holding the pen holder to the display.

Few people will ever have the opportunity to own one of these limited edition commemorative pens before they, too, become history. Made in Boulder City, Nevada.Click here to see the top. Please allow 2-3 weeks for delivery.

So much more than a scarf, this eye-catching, hardworking accessory can be worn in a multitude of different looks to express your style. From a necklace to a headband, a bracelet to an anklet, the strings in this scarf can be removed to make different accessories or color arrangements.
T-shirts are tubular knits and their bodies are cut from tubes of fabric to various dimensions depending on whether the tees are smalls or XX-larges. Once the bodies are cut from these tubes, there will be excess tube that is too small to have a tee body cut from, which normally would be considered waste. These Tee String Scarves are made from these leftover scraps collected from apparel factories. Each scarf includes 20 strings. Made in the USA by Green 3. For the construction of these scarves, Green 3 partnered with Aspiro, a non-profit in Green Bay, Wisconsin that specializes in teaching job skills to cognitively disabled adults. The scarves are cut and sewn by adults in the program, giving them an opportunity for independent living.
Each scarf may vary. Sorry, no choice of colors or length.

Awash with brilliant colors and playful symbolism these unique cases by Camilla d'Errico explore the complexity of women through pop-surrealism and Japanese-inspired illustrations. Made in Los Angeles.
Cotton Candy Curly Cue (left): Like a piece of candy on the sidewalk, this playful pink girl is being overtaken by a swarm of fire ants. This illustration represents something sweet, innocent and tempting, being coveted by the outside world, hoping to get a taste of what they no longer have.
Lions and Lambs (middle): Women are complex and paradoxical. They can be as delicate as a lamb and have the mind of a lion. A lion fish sits atop this girl fanning itself like a crown, giving off an air of grandeur and strength. She wears this strength openly and, yet, at the same time we see that she is still as soft and innocent as the lambs she cradles.
Rascal (right): The name of the painting itself gives a hint as to the state of mind of the girl. Hair like a sunflower and the colors of day break, she holds her playful self, ready to cause mischief. Her little companion guards the eggs, nesting them in the mass of hair. This piece is much like a playful child, the eggs represent the future and the birth of new thoughts and one's self, while the fox represents youthful play.

Made in Los Angeles.

Quintetto (left): Layers of emotion and animals like building blocks make Quintetto a complex piece. The painting is meant to show how rare we are as individuals, and how each of us has many layers that combine to make us uniquely special. Each animal represents part of her personality. It is hard for others to understand those complex layers, and so this woman cries because she wants nothing more than to be understood and accepted.
Apple Tree Queen (middle): The Apple Tree Queen is a lover of nature; she is much like Mother Nature. Her mind is bursting with new thoughts and ideas, and she holds on to them and nurtures them with the fruit from her branches.
Bridegroom (right): Though the name would make you think of a man, this painting is about a bride and her dowry is the giraffe. The eggs symbolize a new, unborn future and she is holding this future in her hands. In her eyes, you can find hope, anticipation, wonder and maybe even a bit of trepidation, as she prepares for her future.

Using traditional methods and simple tools, Vietnamese artisans transform local red clay into this earth-toned luminary modeled off of a classic amphora, a vase used in ancient Rome and Greece to carry and store wine, olive oil, olives or grain. The word amphora is Latin, derived from the Greek amphoreus. Amphi meaning "on both sides" and phoreus meaning "carrier", a refrence to the two carrying handles. Includes a metal candle holder to place tea lights inside. Due to the handmade nature of this product, there may be small variations in color, size and shape. Tea light not included.

It takes a lot of whimsy and loads of imagination to turn scrap heap items into one-of-a-kind works of art.
Encourage, thank or inspire those dearest to you with elegant 100% recycled glass globes, featuring an interior glass trunk that branches out to support vibrant splashes of color. Handmade in Canada by artist Stephen Kitras.
Tree of Prosperity (left): Just as a tree is prosperous when it is full of leaves, bearing fruit or providing a shelter, we too can find prosperity in many different ways. The Tree of Prosperity reminds us that by finding our true happiness or helping others we may grow and prosper.

Tree of Gratitude (center): Every day we are surrounded by many gifts. By taking the time to celebrate these gifts we are able to feel gratitude for the people or circumstances that allow us to have what we do. Gratitude can come in many forms and just like the roots of a tree, it can be deep and everlasting. By showing gratitude to those around us we acknowledge their efforts to make our lives and the lives around them meaningful. Tree of Encouragement (right): Just as a mighty tree was once a small sapling, our goals, dreams or hopes were once small. As we work hard and we surround ourselves with people who support us, we are able to achieve those dreams or conquer barriers we once thought impossible. The Tree of Encouragement reminds us that while the path may be long, we are not alone, and with the support of others anything is possible.

Sold individually. Not intended as a tree ornament.
Uncommon Knowledge: To make these pretty globes, artist Stephen Kitras first has to receive a shipment of broken glass from a supplier in Seattle that makes windows for cars, homes and offices. They send their broken shards to Kitras, who then melts them down in a furnace for 12 hours before creating his signature pieces.

Leaving a life at sea behind them, these colorful float-ropes that were once used by lobstermen off the coast of Maine have been re-purposed and braided into sturdy doormats. Float-ropes are used by lobstermen to tether their lobster traps. Unfortunately, float-rope entangles Northern Right Whales (an endangered species) which swim in the same waters. In order to protect these whales, lobstermen are now required to turn in their old float-ropes and switch to sink-ropes instead. 300,000 pounds of float-rope was destined to go
to landfills and burning facilities in Massachusetts before it was re-purposed for projects such as this. Extremely durable, these doormats can handle the toughest weather conditions and are resistant to mold, mildew, salt water and sun. They do not absorb water or harbor insects. To clean, just give it a good shake. Handmade in Maine of 100% recycled materials. Includes card about the project. Each is one-of-a-kind and will vary. Color varies slightly on each.

Beautifully made and painted, these slightly imperfect pieces feature a red stamp which represents an artisan signature. Made in Japan.Iroha

Although its scent still lingers on

the form of a flower has scattered away

        For whom will the glory

            of this world remain unchanged?

Arriving today at the yonder side

of the deep mountains of evanescent existence

We shall never allow ourselves to drift away

intoxicated, in the world of shallow dreams.

Necessity was the mother of invention when designer Anni Albers first created this bobby pin necklace during WWII. With limited materials to work with, Albers made elegant and playful jewelry from simple components found in hardware shops and drug stores. The original necklace was featured in a 1941 traveling exhibition of common object jewelry. Now you can recreate this wearable work of art for yourself with this easy to assemble kit. Kit comes with the components to make this necklace. Simply use the photo of the finished piece as your guide. Remove chain beads with wire cutters to achieve desired fit. Assembled in Connecticut.
Handmade in Haiti from recycled steel oil drums, this vibrant votive holder is a charming combination of joyful color, traditional craftsmanship and rugged materials.

Creating art from recycled steel drums has been a long tradition in Haiti. Artisans purchase industrial 55-gallon drums and then stuff them with straw, which is then burned in order to remove any remaining oil residue.

The drums are then cut, the metal is rolled flat and a stencil of the design is glued over top of the sheet metal. With hammer and chisel the artisan creates the design and cuts the form. Colorful painted flowers are the final touch.
Each votive holder comes with a tea light, which will beautifully flicker through the spaces among the floral and vine design. This piece also looks great on its own or holding a small vase with flowers.

Handmade in Haiti by the Comite Artisanal Haitian, an artisan cooperation of 170 artists who live in and around Port au Prince.
Half of the profits that the supplier makes from the sales of these bowls go to Partners in Health (Stand with Haiti) and Americares.

An indulgence that has been enjoyed for centuries, rose nectar is an organic beverage derived from distilled Kazanlak roses harvested in Bulgaria. It is high in Vitamin C, contains no additives, caffeine, or carbonation. It's simply a pure drink made with real cane sugar and colored naturally by the Kazanlak, a flower with a very rich history, a remarkably intense aroma and soft pink color.

Ancient civilizations regarded this rose's oil as having both medicinal and romantic applications. It is even said that Leonardo Da Vinci drank Kazanlak tea and nectar quite regularly. These special roses have been cultivated in the Kazanlak Valley in central Bulgaria since 1256 AD. The blossoms are picked between 3 a.m. to 10 a.m. when the dew levels are at their highest, during a 3-week period in May and June. The rose petals used to make the nectar must be
converted into concentrate within two hours of
harvesting.

Enjoy it plain, with seltzer or with your favorite spirited beverages. Mix it with cognac or vodka or add it to champagne; enjoy it with juice in the morning. The possibilities are endless!

Sold in sets of two. Available with sugar or reduced sugar (33% less sugar).

Or maybe Dr. Seuss is more your speed. With Liebrary, you can try your hand at rewriting the first lines of literary classics and let your friends be the judge.
One player reads the title, author and synopsis of a real-life book. The other players must then each write and submit their best attempt at a first line for the book. The first player reads all the submissions, including the real first line of the book, and then the other players each try to pick out the real one. Players get points for choosing the real first line, getting other players to select their submission, and possibly knowing the real first line before it is revealed. Created by actress Daryl Hannah. Made in China.Includes:- One card catalog of 350 book cards in five categories (Classics, Children's, Fiction, Non-Fiction, Romance, and Mystery/Sci-Fi/Horror)- 10 Liebrary Cards- Answer sheet pad- Category Die- Six pencils- One 2-minute timer- Game board - Six Liebrary Book Pawns - Five divider cards

Jason Hilbourne designed these soft and squishy robots with a belief: "If the next generation knows more about robots... if we can influence
more children to become gearheads... then, and only then, will humans have a fighting chance
against the robot apocalypse."
Ok, not really. He designed them because his sons used to sleep with plastic robot figurines in their bunk beds, and Jason thought Bunk Bots would be less dangerous to roll over on in the middle of the night. Each Bunk Bot comes with a brilliantly illustrated, entertaining book written by roboticist Daniel Wilson about the coming apocalypse. Otto the Bunk Bot (left) comes with How to Build A Robot Army (e.g. "passive-dynamic exoskeleton suits will increase sprint speeds but not leg strength") and Ninja Servo (right) comes with How to Survive a Robot Uprising (e.g. How do you escape a murderous "smart" house?). Robots made in the USA; books printed in China.Sets sold separately.
