I highly recommend this as a gift for a child from the age of 4 and up. When gave it as a gift the little girl wanted to do it immediately, her only comment was that she wished she could get in herself. I loved how all the paints came with it and even with the comment by the girl, she REALLY loved it.

I was a little disappointed in this... although I admit I should have been more diligent in checking the size. I have seen these before where they are big enough for a toddler to go inside it, and I assumed this was one of those. It is not. It would be a good size for barbie dolls to play in. Still cute, but not what I expected....

It is great for a child to be creative. I love the fact that the paints are included. Right when the child gets it they can start painting the house. The one thing that wasn't so great was the size. I was hoping it was big enough for a young child (up to age 6) to go inside and play. dar

You will need several sessions to finish it ...so it's an ongoing project--not just a one time, one afternoon kind of thing. My 4-year old loves all the detail on it, signs, flowers etc. We are still working on it...whenever the mood strikes. She said she'll use it as a house for her Barbie dolls once it's completely painted. --The paint that came with it is sort of cheap but she's using her own watercolors too so she gets the shade of color she wants.

This doll house was smaller than I thought, but it provided several periods of quiet, focused activity. My girls, 6 and 8, were happy to come up with their own decorations. It was an activity we could all do together, with the girls working on their houses and me helping with both (at their request).

Comments about COLOR YOUR OWN CARDBOARD COTTAGE DOLL HOUSE:

I bought the house for 4 nieces and nephews to color together. Since they range in age (from 4-9 years old), I decided to give them (washable) markers to use rather than risk using the paint (and risk them painting each other, the furniture, the walls...) and they LOVED their project! They each took an inside panel and an outside panel of the house to color and the two older children finished the roof. When I left them, they were happily introducing their dolls and "figurines" (since "boys don't play with dolls," as I was told...) to their new home.

I read other reviews commenting on the size so I was fully aware that this was a small house. I gave it to my niece and she was immediately excited to start decorating. She immediately started to paint the house but qucikly ran out of paint so luckliy I had some crayons and markers ( which work better for some of the smaller areas)She has completed the inside and the roof so far and can not wait to come back to my house and continue to decorate it. This is a great gift as long as you are aware of the size of the house and have some backup coloring products available for use.

I bought this item a couple of months ago for both of my children (not reading the dimensions), I assumed they could play "in" it. When the box arrived, it was a fairly large box so I didn't figure it would be anything except what I expected, until it was assembled, and it was found to be small and useless. Basically it would be a nice Polly Pocket house at best.

This house was cute and looked similiar to photograph in everything but actual size. My daughter (4 yrs old) had recieved a similiar gift last year but it was a lifesize playhouse that she and her friends could go in and out of. This house is very small and only for dolls. A bit dissapointing and not what I expected based on photograph. Need to show perspective and clarify use.

We gave these doll houses to our 4 and 6 year old nieces and they both loved it! We didn't get to see the finished product but it looks like it will be hours of enjoyment to decorate it and hours to enjoy it with their dolls. I also know that they enjoyed opening up a big box. Really great value!

I got the cottage for my 5 1/2 year old son and the fire station for my 3 1/2 year old son. Adorable design, with painting both inside and out. My boys couldn't wait to get started!

I have for several years purchased the Cardboard houses from other companies and they were large enough for a 7-8 year old to play IN for approximately $26. When I saw they were only [$] I purchased them. When I received them, they were shipped in the same size box I have always received them in. Until the night of the Christmas party for the children, I opened the houses to find that not only were the children not able to get in and play but that they were only big enough fo a small doll baby. This has been very disceeving and disappointming. It is not worth the price

Comments about COLOR YOUR OWN CARDBOARD COTTAGE DOLL HOUSE:

I guess I did not read the fine print very well - I thought the house was bigger. I had in my mind that you could play with a larger doll in it, but in truth it barely gets a Barbie doll through the front door. My daughter lost interest in it very quickly. I did not feel it was worth the price. Perhaps an older child (6-9) who is really into coloring/design would have liked it better.

It kept my son and his nine year old cousin really busy and interested. Although we needed to purchase another paint set to finish the product because the item did not include enough paint, other than this, the product was a big HIT. The kids loved it.

I first saw this item when my great niece came for a visit and showed me all her webkinz stuffed animals were kept in one of these cardboard houses.
she was so proud of the coloring job she had done that I knew I need to get two for my Grandchildren. I can't wait for them to open it on Christmas Morning. I know they will be thrilled with it.

This was excellent for my daughter. She really enjoyed coloring it with all of us ( our whole family contributed.) She was a little disappointed when she realized that this was not big enough for her to get her own self inside! It was for her animals and little figures. Hey there is an idea for a new toy for you all to work on!

We got one of these for our 2 daugthers birthday when they turned 2. It was a great product and we were so impressed with it. When I had done the research and saw that Uncommon Goods was selling it for just 20 dollars I was over the moon and have sent everyone I know to the site for a great gift idea when you just don't know what to give the kid who has pretty much everything. We love it and it was fun.

Comments about COLOR YOUR OWN CARDBOARD COTTAGE DOLL HOUSE:

My three year old granddaughter had never used paints before or a paintbrush but she took to it at once. First we put it together for her so she could see what it was(she loved it) and then we opened it up and showed her what to do. She used up all the paints in one day and we got her new ones right away. This has been the most successful plaything I have ever given her and watching her concentrate on her project was a wonderful and moving experience.

Mis-leading
By BetsyVerified Reviewer from Indianapolis, IN on 8/6/2008
Pros:
Good Quality, Holds Items Well, Stylish
Best Uses:
Creative Play, Young Children
Describe Yourself:
First Time Parent
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about COLOR YOUR OWN CARDBOARD COTTAGE DOLL HOUSE:

Item looks much larger online than when received. Had I known it was actually "doll" sized, I would not have purchased it. I am now in search of another card-board house for my little one to play IN. Lesson learned: read the dimensions on everything before purchasing online.
