Specifically evoking the tone of the bells in Maine's Bar Harbor, Boston Harbor, the Outer Banks or San Francisco Bay, these chimes capture the majesty of nature in unique settings. Each powder-coated wind chime is made of 60% recycled steel and created in an eco-friendly process. Designed and handmade by the Davidson family of Maine, each bell has a "living finish" that will patina over time. I have always loved the sound of buoys, and to find an Outer Banks buoy bell was amazing--I love the OBX. The bell is extremely sturdy and the craftsmanship is amazing. Although it is too heavy for a shepards hook in my garden as I originally planned, I found another, more sturdy place to hang it. The fact that it can be silenced is a major plus for those stormy and windy spring nights. I love the sound--very authentic and incredibly relaxing.

This hangs from the porch and soothes us with the infrequent sounds of an imagined harbor. The wind catcher is slight, so it takes some force to chime; however, this is not a negative, as the sound is quite clear and pronounced. For this reason, it is brilliant that the makers have engineered this so that it may be "silenced" in heavy winds. It is pretty heavy, so one wants to hang it from a sturdy mount. But we love it; we are thinking of getting another.

As a visitor to the Cranberry Isles in Maine for 35 years, the Bar Harbor Buoy Bell was a perfect addition to our front porch...it catches even the slightest breeze and that's all it takes to remind me of the smell of salt-water air, blueberry pancakes, and "the lobster dock". We love this bell, and have since given several different "Buoy Bells" to friends as gifts...super easy to hang, stays in greast shape in all weather, highly recommended!!

The bell is big. It has a wonderful, melodic tone to it. It sounds like a genuine buoy bell!We hung ours in the back yard. We like that the clanger can be locked into place so it does ring when we don't want it to. It does ring loud, so not for those who don't want to hear. If you have a bell fetish like we do, it's a great conversation piece.

Even when the wind blew relatively strong, it didn't chime often, so we adjusted the chime end with clear packing tape, so the wind could catch it to make the chime more often. We love the sound, and it's very soft, just enough to bring back those seaside memories.

I gave this to my mother for Mother's Day and she absolutely loved it. It has a beautiful sound and looks nice hanging on her back porch. It can get a bit loud when the wind picks up but you can just "turn it off" by moving the gong part up the pendulum so it doesn't swing anymore.
