Louise Loewenstein has been a contemporary fiber artist for over 30 years. Her first work was making baskets that expand the traditional image of this ancient Native American craft. More recently, her line of zipper jewelry was inspired by a trip to South Africa and an immersion into native crafts. Many items Louise saw for sale began with recycled materials. When she returned home she began to see everyday items in a new way.
"As I worked with a variety of zipper pulls, the challenge became how to configure them so that it was not obvious what they were at first glance," says Louise. " When people realized the necklaces were made of zippers they were amused. Bringing a little whimsy into our world was reason enough to keep creating new designs!"
