Pitter Patter

Water is a recurring image in Zen meditation, whether it's as a symbol of spiritual and mental clarity, or a literal presence in the environment, calming the mind with its joyous trickling sound. These handcrafted earrings from artist Eileen Baumeister McIntyre capture some of that calming spirit, with a leaf-like pendants that each cradle a cluster of shimmering, silver droplets. The droplets shift and shake as you move, creating a delicate, rain pattering sound that is only audible when you take a quiet moment to listen for it. The leaf form itself is crafted from a unique, Japanese alloy called shibuichi. A combination of silver and copper, shibuichi was used in ancient times to create the delicate ornamentation on Samurai swords.

McIntyre has studied both botanical illustration and metalworking, and she draws upon the traditions of both to create her stunning jewelry. She draws her inspiration from her own garden, often beginning with drawings or watercolors of the leaves, seeds and petals she loves. She then uses precious metals to transform those impressions into wearable works of art. Handmade in Long Island, New York.

Eileen Baumeister McIntyre

Eileen Baumeister McIntyre finds her inspiration from her extensive organic garden. Working in the garden among the flowers, vegetables, herbs and weeds, she takes time to fill her sketchbook throughout the growing season. Her drawings and paintings have always had a botanical theme, which eventually evolved into the Garden of Silver jewelry line. Many of the jewelry pieces are created by hand carving into wax and then cast into sterling silver. Eileen also etches and embosses the metals to create texture and relief and utilize traditional metalworking techniques. collection
