Time Warped

This desk clock defies the very nature of hardwood with its sinuous design: a sleek ribbon of richly-striped, laminated zebrawood displays the clock face, wrapping around itself to flow seamlessly into a stand. Woodworking brothers John and Mark Schlabaugh have created a handmade, modern design with organic materials that will complement the decor of any desk or shelf. Handmade in the USA.

John and Mark Schlabaugh

Two brothers, John and Mark Schlabaugh started out making oak cutting boards and serving trays from left over stair tread scraps from their father's home construction business. Thirty some years later their work has evolved and has most recently been sold in the Renwick Gallery and National Gallery of Art at the Smithonian, the Gamble House in Pasadena and the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. John & Mark began working for their father, Emil in the home construction business. As they began to discover more of the tools used to build cabinets for custom homes, they each found ways to express themselves through the art of woodworking. Neither brother has had formal training in woodworking. Mark, 62, has designed work that is more contemporary in nature. His most recent works are a combination of exotic and domestic hardwood veneers that are formed to create a variety of functional items. The contemporary pieces are purchased by stores and galleries across the country. John, 55, enjoys designing work that is Arts & Crafts and Greene & Greene inspired. He is challenged by designing pieces that he can sell to stores & galleries that are known for top-quality workmanship while maintaining prices that make the work affordable.
