The Drawing Board
Birds of a feather snack together! Handmade by Sandra Bonazoli and Jim Dowd, this solid maple serving board features laser-engraved reproductions of the artist's hand-drawn illustrations of two, twittering wrens. Jim and Sandra draw inspiration from many diverse sources, including cross-cultural folk art, flora and fauna, vintage children's storybooks, and quirky old tools. With their work, they aspire to bridge the gap between craft and contemporary design by applying traditional decorative motifs in new and unexpected contexts.
In this functional artwork the couple's sharp, mid-century, aviary illustrations enliven this food-fit surface. Blonde, delicately-grained maple is soft enough not to dull knives but lovely enough to go straight from the kitchen to the dining room table. Since maple possesses naturally anti-bacterial properties, it's easy to take care of; simply hand wash, wipe dry, and rub with mineral oil occasionally to bring out the wood's natural beauty and to promote many years of enjoyment. Handmade in Colorado.
