Enamored with what he calls "forgotten technology," Karl Zahn strives to turn back the clock on contemporary design with some traditional aesthetic principals. Alum of the Rhode Island School of Design, Zahn worked as an Architectural Fabricator in San Francisco before going on to study Danish furniture in Copenhagen. Believing that technology progresses too quickly for people to properly explore their full potential, Zahn actively creates pieces that walk the line between old-fashioned and contemporary, all the while drawing heavily from Danish history and industrial craft.

A walrus dives leagues beneath the arctic ice, serving as an ancient symbol for uncovering deep secrets and wisdom. This unassuming walrus figurine lives up to its heritage quite well. Not only does designer Karl Zahn use the ancient medium of carved, unpainted wood, but the stylized figure contains a hidden hinge that reveals a secret hiding place for your everyday treasures. Handmade from new growth beech wood in China.
