Using local, sustainably sourced Guapinol wood, father-and-son-team Francisco and Carlos Flores carefully select individual pieces for their grain and beauty. They then mill the pieces into perfect cylinders. To do this, each piece of wood is cut with a band saw, hand-turned on a lathe, then hand sanded to velvety smoothness. The result? A pair of richly patterned, fair-trade shakers you'll treasure for years to come.

But it's not just about the shakers. The Flores team dwell and work in Masaya, Nicaragua, a city renowned as the center of hand-craftsmanship in Central America. And now, in addition to sharing his lifetime of knowledge with his son, Francisco has also added 5 employees to his growing business, giving them training and opportunities that might otherwise be hard to come by. So every time you add a dash of salt and a pinch of pepper, you'll know that together with Francisco and his team, you're making the world a better (or at least tastier) place. With 35 years of experience in various forms of wood working under his belt, Francisco "Chico" Flores decided to stake his claim on an exciting style of rustic wood bowls and kitchen accessories. Born and raised in Masaya, Nicaragua, Chico and his son, Carlos have built a name for themselves as great wood workers, and now operate a workshop that has created jobs for 8 other artisans in the community.
