Lynda and Jerry Glass

Lynda and Jerry Glass began their careers doing custom home construction in Mississippi. In 1992, they began making bird houses and selling them on Saturday mornings at small local craft shows. After a few years of small-scale success, they ended their human-oriented business, joined up with Jerry's brother Larry, and began focusing entirely on exquisite, imaginative bird, butterfly and ladybug dwellings.

The Heartwood crew create their own boxes from post-consumer fiber reclaimed from local factories. They ship tens of thousands of wooden houses a year, all made without cutting a single tree. See all creations.

We love that the wooden butterfly house is painted and shingled by hand. Does this darling domicile set your heart aflutter?

What a cute design which is not over the top or over done!

ciara

I'm not a fan of the color, will there be more choices?

melissa

I voted yes because it's very pretty but I'm probably not going to buy it for $68.

Thanks for the feedback, Ciara! The Wooden Butterfly House is being considered in this color, but we do welcome suggestions. What colors would you like to see?

What makes it attractive to butterflies, as opposed to let's say spiders or wasps?

Cassie, UncommonGoods Community Moderator

Thanks for the question, Cassandra. Some butterfly species seek shelter in warm summer months and hibernate in safe places during the winter, so this house could provide the cover they need. Unfortunately, there is no way to guarantee that other bugs won't be attracted to this cozy home as well.

It is overpriced.

I'm not sure butterflies need houses. The money would be better spent on plants that attract butterflies.

Way to Pricey.

This is a lovely design and not over priced considering it is hand made in america. I would just hope that it is not over taken by less desirable insects.

I absolutely love this, but it is EXTREMELY over priced.

I want this!! I've been looking for something like this for my flower garden. It has a unique look, but still works.

Very pretty and functional.

Too pricey. This can easily be a weekend craft project.

Like this even more than the lady bug house. But again concerned about the price!

This is SO cool. And made in the US!

Birdhouses should not be expensive, as they represent simple living and charm.

Akiko

Way too expensive, but I love it. The carved opening and color is pretty and something I haven;t seen.

Nancy

I am not convinced that butterflies will actually use it.
