Italian Influence

Earthy yet elegant, these exquisitely hand crafted earrings by Jessie Alon are created using a technique called Terrazzo, which is Italian for terrace.

The origins of Terrazzo can be traced back to 15th century Italy. Venetian craftsmen had discovered an innovative use for small remnants of marble chips left over from the studios of local sculptors: they would combine the marble with mortar to create beautiful terraces.

In that same tradition, these stunning hand hammered 100% recycled sterling silver earrings feature a small disc cast from a mixture of reclaimed marble and recycled glass. Additional color and texture are added by layering natural elements such as river rock and semi-precious stones. It is during the polishing process, as the marble and glass are being exposed, that the piece begins to come alive. Handmade in Vermont. Exclusively at UncommonGoods.
