wheel of life braceletby Jessie Alon $50.00 $19.99 - 29.99
- the story
Simply elegant, these exquisitely hand crafted bracelets by Jessie Alon are created using a technique called Terrazzo, which is Italian for terrace.
The origins of Terrazzo can be traced back to 15th century Italy. Venetian craftsmen had discovered an innovative use for small remnants of marble chips left over from the studios of local sculptors: they would combine the marble with mortar to create beautiful terraces.
In that same tradition, these stunning hand hammered 100% recycled sterling silver bracelets feature a small disc cast from a mixture of reclaimed marble and recycled glass. Additional color and texture are added by layering natural elements such as river rock and semi-precious stones. It is during the polishing process, as the marble and glass are being exposed, that the piece begins to come alive. The disc is then effortlessly incorporated into the bracelet, making everything about this piece, even the clasp, one fluid, united statement. Handmade in Vermont. Exclusively at UncommonGoods.

- the maker
Jessie Alon, a primarily self-taught artist, studied art education and design in college. In 2002, she began working as a jeweler for a well known glassblower. Four years later Jessie opened her own jewelry business.
With a love for design and creating, in 2004 Jessie and and her husband Michael began designing and building their home. With an eclectic sense of style, Jessie and Michael incorporated many old world techniques into their home. In the building process, Jessie became interested in architectural designs and concepts. During this time, Jessie became fascinated with the 15th century Italian technique of Terrazzo (A technique in which discarded marble chips and remnants are applied to another surface in order to elevate it.) She began researching and experimenting on ways to incorporate this into her jewelry line.
Jessie dedicated a year to refining a technique enabling her to use terrazzo successfully on a small scale. The result is a line of jewelry with timeless style.
