Double Word Score

If brevity is the soul of wit, then these playful cufflinks are sure to win some smiles. They feature text found in vintage books, with each stud displaying a word that, when paired together, becomes a familiar phrase. "Uh Oh" is perfect for the accident-prone gentleman, and "Yes Ma'am" is a cheeky reminder of the correct answer to any question you may ask. The text graphics are reprinted onto archival paper to preserve color and quality, and sealed under glossy, waterproof resin. The hardware is crafted from recycled silver. Made by Betsy and Stephen Carr in Asheville, NC.

Avoid exposing to chemicals, excessive heat or moisture.

The words "Uh-Oh" and "Yes Ma'am" were sourced from vintage books, reprinted archivally to reduce fading and sealed under a glossy coat of resin.

Betsy Carr

In Betsy's words, "I can't be sure how it all started. Maybe it was the summers spent rifling through my grandmother's attic, or the piles of floral bedsheets in my mother's linen closet, begging to be cut apart and made into something new. That, or my father's habit of finding clever uses for things otherwise meant for the trash. Something from my past stirred up a fondness for rescuing old things and prompted an avocation.

I'm in love with the idea that these bits of paper and scraps of fabric had stories of their own before reaching my hands. And it tickles me to imagine that people who wear my work are reminded of events from their own storied pasts.

I began using these materials in my artwork as a studio arts student at the University of North Carolina in Wilmington. Several years after finishing my degree I began studying silversmithing at Arrowmont School of Craft in Gatlinburg, TN. The jewelry I make now draws from both of these experiences.

My jewelry line, foundling, incorporates pages from old books, vintage patterned fabrics, timeworn beads, illustrations and recycled silver. Silver mining takes a sad toll on the environment. I'm happy to have a source for silver recycled from the world's existing supply and I use it as much as possible.

In addition to limited edition work, I produce a wholesale line of vintage papers and fabrics set in oxidized silver bezels. The graphic text, softly colored maps and sweet vintage florals combine vintage goodness with modern sensibility in necklaces, earrings and bracelets that are wearable conversation pieces."

Is Erin fantastic at finding cool new cufflinks? "Yes Ma'am!" So, don't make us say "Uh-Oh" for passing them up. Vote thumbs up if you'd love to see this clever design by Betsy Carr in our lineup, and don't forget to leave a comment so we know why you think these sterling silver accessories would make a great gift.

Vote: Thumbs up!

Cute, but seem pricey for such a simple idea/design

Love them, but very pricey.

Sima
Vote: Thumbs up!

Love them, but the price is definitely too high.

Love the concept. Although the price is way out there. I can find cheaper ones (by 50$$) on some famous "social commerce website focused on handmade or vintage items as well as art and craft supplies".

But a little pricey

I have to agree with everyone else so far. They are really fun but way too expensive for recycled newspaper, resin and a small amount of silver.

cute concept. but way over priced! know that the price of silver is up, but that price is ridiculous!

LOVE the concept, LOVE IT and would buy these. If they were half this price or even less than that. This price is far too high.

Graet idea, and I have no problem with the price, you're paying not just for the item, but the design idea.

DITTO to everyone above

Cuff links are very archaic.

Rita
Vote: Thumbs down!

Way too expensive and can't see too many men wearing these.

Cynthia
Vote: Thumbs up!

Not so much

Kim
Vote: Thumbs down!

Not too many men wear cufflinks anymore, but I would love these as brads for scrapbooking. Of course, I would never pay $75 for them!

Jennifer
Vote: Thumbs down!

I actually love this, but it is much too expensive.

Nikki

Wow, these are cute, but talk about pricey! I feel like i'd be able to make these for $5. I also feel like these would be the type of gift that would be thrown into a drawer only to be forgotten, as it doesn't seem like a style men typically go for...

Love this kind of stuff, but priced to out of my league and no one in my household would buy them.

Kim

LOVE THEM, but $72 is a little much. I would probably cave and buy them though for a special friend. I actually already have someone in mind!
