Home is Where the Art Is

Hand-sculpted by husband-and-wife team Eric Hendrick and Noelle Van Hendrick, this generously sized platter is a piece of functional artwork. Starting with an intense, dark clay body, the artists hand-throw each platter before decorating with slip and finishing with wax resist methods. These hands-on methods of assembly culminate in an elaborately varied surface that is, at once, a touching exhibition of the maker's aesthetic and creative intent, and a tribute to its recipients.

Noelle's hand-carved poem encircles a colorful sketch of the couple surrounded by a heart and beaming sun. Personalize the platter by adding the couple's first names and their anniversary. More than just an attractive piece for display, this platter makes a beautiful backdrop for fruit pieces, cheese wedges, and, since it's microwave, oven, and dishwasher safe, it also servers as an eye-catching centerpiece for your main course. Handmade in Vermont.

Eric Hendrick and Noelle VanHendrick

As newlyweds, Eric and Noelle decided to pursue their artistic passion, and put all of their gift money toward buying red clay for their handmade creations. Unfortunately, the clay they received didn't perform like it was supposed to. "It was bad," says Noelle. "We couldn't attach spouts or handles, and glazes wouldn't stick! We were bummed." Fortunately, the two carried on and have continued to share their gift for joyful ceramics. See all creations.
