Can Session
"Reuse it for music!" Trash Amps turns empty soda cans into funky, portable speakers for MP3 players and grab-and-go amplifiers for electric guitars and bases. By approaching recycling with a can do attitude, the company repurposes spent aluminum cans by imbedding the shell with a high-quality speaker, a retractable chord and an adapter to turn your deceptive speaker into a rocking amp. Just pop the colorful, magnetic top and choose your setting, "chill" for mp3 players or "jam" for those impromptu band rehearsals. Includes 3 AAA Batteries for 20+ hours of music. Handmade in California.

We think this just might be one of the coolest ways to repurpose an aluminum can out there. Do you think the Trash Amp rocks?
Vote: Thumbs up!
I think this is a great way to repurpose old soda cans! While I hate loud music and cannot play an instrument for my life I am a recycling freak and this is perfect for me to give as a gift! (My older brother plays electric guitar and I am always nagging on him to recycle so this would be perfect!) While the price is a little steep I think it's a very unique gift for any music addict.

These portable speakers are totally awesome and perfect for Uncommon Goods! Trash Amps are both sustainable and hand-made; what more could you want from a cool little speaker? Reuse It For Music!

These comments seem so excited about reusing a can, but look at how many batteries this uses!!!! Three batteries for only 20 hours of music? Figure out a way to solar charge the can and you've got yourself a product. Right now I think this is a prototype that needs more work. But it is a product on the right track. Maybe choose a picture that matches your catalogue's style if you're going to go with this waste creating product though.

Only a thumbs up because I'm so keen on recycling; however it's a bit overpriced.

I agree with the previous posting about the waste coming from the number of batteries needed to power this. a Solar panel or something of that sort would take this to a better level of "green" fun.

I like it - but it's too expensive for what is essentially a novelty item

overpriced it needs 3 batteries. why can't it work off the power of the mp3?

I totally agree with Jenna and others. Too many batteries to offset the recycling effort.
Marie

I think the idea is great, but they need to figure out a way to charge it as opposed to keep using batteries... not very helpful in recycling.

I'm totally with Jenna on this one!A. If you're truly into recycle/reduce/reuse - it would indeed be solar-powered or rechargeable in some way.B. Half-assed looking "graffiti" graphics? Really??!? Does it also come in a Forty size?? Come on, Uncommon Goods - you're better than that.

$55 bucks, 3 batteries and only 20 hours? I wonder how long the batteries last by themselves.

I have to agree with other people's comments. At first it seemd utterly cool but the thought about how much batteries. Plus, the price is too much!!

Priced a bit high. Wish can noT painted- left to look more like pop if even a fake brand. Even better would be a kit that would allow a user to convert their own can into a speaker

WHY??? There are so many different kinds of speakers available these days that are much more attractive AND much less expensive. If you want to recycle cans, there are a million other ways to do so.

Hey guys, 20 hours is much more than most portable speakers you'd find at an electronics store. People like sharing music with friends, so they might as well get in the mindset of reuse. Recharable batteries aren't as powerful as disposable, and you eventually throw them away. Solar doesn't give enough power. If you want a loud portable speaker, 3 AAA batteries are they way to go.

People are talking about how this would be cool with solar... nice idea, but study up a bit! Do you have any idea how much surface area would be required to power a little speaker like this? It's way different than charging a cell phone, for example. Thats all you need is a HUGE solar panel to go with your extremely sleek and PORTABLE speaker... This product is extremely compact, portable, and apparently loud - that's the point I think. Hopefully someday solar technology will advance and be able to power little gadgets like this someday tho...

Um to everyone who thumbed down... you can use recharable batteries (for those who care about the environment, that's your best choice!). Try to find another portable speaker for guitar/ipod that uses a recyclable housing or a "better power source" on the go...you won't! And you can customize all of it!

Interesting concept... skeptical about the sound it will put out, but also agree with Jenna concerning the batteries (it might be a recycled can but think about all those batteries that it will use that will stick around for decades)...

I own one of these and absolutely LOVE it! If you don't have an ipod jack in your car this fits the bill. Great for traveling and jam sessions as my musician friend Max tells me. He tried to steal mine, he said the quality was outstanding. This is a great small company too.

My family really enjoys the trash amp. The girls take it with them to all their games. They really enjoy hearing music during warm ups and in between games on tournament weekends. This is a great gift at a decent price and I am very happy with my purchase. FYI rechargeable batteries are the best way to go.

There's nothing stopping you from using your own rechargeable batteries with the Trash Amp, it's really your choice. I looked at their "official video" on YouTube, and the batteries are just on the bottom, not built in, so rechargeable batteries are totally an option. Plus if you're camping or backpacking and it needs new batteries, you won't have a place to recharge, so having the OPTION is good. And people are complaining about the price - including rechargeable batteries would only increase the price - you can't have it all you naive tree huggers!

I have had multiple trash amps throughout the last couple years ranging from original prototypes to the most current up to date models, and all I can say is that Adam, the owner of Trash Amps, is purely in it for the love of his hobby. These are extremely high quality and I turn heads every where I with it. This is certainly a must buy product.

This is an awesome product. I found it last Christmas at a mall in the SF Bay Area and bought 12 of them as gifts. Everyone who received one wanted to know where to find it. Most of those people went online and bought multiples. I wish I had bought more; I kept thinking of people to give it to. From 10 year old grandchildren to 65 year old travelers - it works for all. It sounds great,it's fun,it's not just a novelty, and it's all recycled. Love it.

My trash amp has save many a party, weather I'm just playing tunes through my phone or plugging into my guitar. Cool to use on the beach too! There aren't many other portable speakers that will last at the beach all day without plugging into a power source. Most I-pod speakers last only about 4 hours before they need to be recharged.
