tagua saphi necklaceby Monica Farbiarz
- the story
The Bright Way
Reminiscent of radiant agate and glossy ivory, each stick-shaped bead threaded into these spectacular collar necklaces is carved from sustainable tagua, commonly referred to as "vegetable ivory" for its likeness in bulk and texture.
The creation of tagua jewelry helps curb illegal elephant poaching, prevents deforestation, and allows local communities to make a living from the harvesting and processing of the seeds. Designed by Monica Farbiarz, these bold necklaces are handmade in a Colombian workshop that prides itself on treating workers fairly and providing the opportunity to learn life skills.

- the maker
When Monica Farbiarz traveled to Colombia in 2006, she had no idea that she, a dancer, musician and yoga instructor, would fall so quickly in love with the Tagua seed, a material that would inspire a full time jewelry-designing business.
She immediately found a workshop that offered her the perfect combination of quality production and fair labor practices, and enrolled in a business class to prepare for the inevitable commerce.
By 2007, she was ready to share her creations with the world, and now she's devoted to providing women with beautiful Tagua jewelry, all while helping her workers achieve their dreams. collection
