Chosen from over a dozen fresh entries, designer Danae Douglas' illustration rode off with our voters' hearts--and their votes! To Danae, a picnic is a getaway, and her winning design, featuring an iconic portrait of eco-friendly transportation, provides the perfect visual prompt to capture this event's carefree essence. Fun, free, and healthy, a leisurely bike ride is one of finest ways to celebrate the summer. With her crisp, modern design, Danae was able to encapsulate the freeing feeling of a summery escape, one that starts on a bike and ends on a smooth gingham blanket with friends and food.
With a basket brimming with delectable, French delights, this charming cycle represents all the most memorable aspects of dejeuner sur l'herbe (aka lunch in the park)! This charming cycle evokes that summertime joie de vivre and the ingenious plates and cups on which it's printed are made of bagasse, a fibrous, 100% compostable material made out of the remains of sugar cane, so picnickers today can do their part to make sure the earth stays just as lovely for future generations. Made in a fair trade facility in China.
Set includes 24 plates and 24 cups.

When did you start designing?
I've been drawing for as long as I can remember - my family definitely has the art gene (my mom was a watercolorist and muralist, and my dad was a digital painter). I always assumed I'd also become a fine artist, but when a college representative visited my high school and showed us examples of graphic design work, I fell in love with it.
What are your favorite things to design/illustrate?
That's a tough choice, but I'd have to say my favorite thing to design is probably anything wearable. I've designed a couple t-shirts for different events at my college, and I think it's awesome to see someone wearing something you created. See

I love the idea of it, but the illustration is too boxy and angular, and the "un" on the flag only makes sense for the store, not for the end user.

But... What's with the "un" flag? I know it represents the brand, but just a little "un" randomly on the plate raises questions by those eating off it. It would be a mystery to everyone but the buyer.

like this design only the "un" is a bit annoying. and the spokes inthe wheels are abundant which makes the two wheels look like owl eyes from a distance which is not appealing for dinnerware- but the overall design is totally cute.
