Tulianna and Alejandra Garces
It’s been several decades since mother-daughter duo Tulianna and Alejandra Garces emigrated from Colombia. However, the Vermont-based jewelry makers stay connected to their homeland via their collection of dipped-lace jewelry, which is crafted in the South American country by artisans trained by the Garces women. “A large part of [our] mission is to encourage these artisans to maintain their cultural traditions while also being able to support their families,” Tulianna says.
While the Garces’ dipped-lace styles draw inspiration from pre-Columbian jewelry traditions, Tulianna and Alejandra have recently branched out into locally made pieces as well, which they handcraft in their studio. The designs feature organic materials sourced in Vermont, continuing to ground their work in a sense of place–and home.
