Designed To A Tea

Tea becomes a framed work of art as leaves gently unfurl while they steep in this contemporary teapot. Sorapot's architectural shape and simple functionality bring tea's quiet beauty into sharp focus. Made from 304 stainless steel, borosilicate glass (Pyrex), and food-grade silicone, the Sorapot articulates the ritual of tea making in a thoroughly modern way. Designed by former UncommonGoods copywriter Joey Roth. Assembled and polished by hand. Made in China.

Brooklyn designer (and former UncommonGoods copywriter), Joey Roth uses stories as the initial sketches for his designs. He thinks about characters, scenes and conversations, then designs an object that will feed this narrative. He's fascinated by the meanings that designed objects convey and by ritual behavior.

Roth used to be a student of creative writing, and loved it because it allowed him to construct entire worlds for his characters. He now tells stories through product design, and still strives to make each product an immersive world.

Beautiful pot however the glass broke as soon as I put it together. I never even got to try it. It is impossible to get a replacement glass from the sellers or the artist.

      "Steel Anniversary"

      Comments about Sorapot:

Was a great 'unique' gift for our 'Steel Anniversary' -- Pricey but I find it usually the norm for unique gifts. Will say it is made well - heavy -- and looks beautiful. Definitely something you want to bring out among friends, conversational piece.

        Comments about Sorapot:

It's a gorgeous piece, but functionally leaves a few things to be desired. You have to tighten the screw so hard that your thumbs will hurt if you want the pot not to leak water everywhere. Also, if you like chai tea, the metal strainer isn't small enough to prevent spices, etc. from pouring into your cup.

We noticed a great difference in taste from our plastic tea-maker. If it was easy to close and strained smaller, we'd have kept it. As it was, we returned it.

price to value- too expensive. Purchased as a house warming gift; would love one myself, but can't justify the cost.

        Comments about Sorapot:

I've always loved making loose-leaf teas from China and Japan, but I never thought much about the teapots themselves. When I received this Sorapot as my birthday gift, my outlook changed. It is a very functional teapot for sure, but it is also like a sculpture for my table! I have been using it every morning for about two months now to make my breakfast tea, but I really love to bring it out when I have friends over.

        Comments about Sorapot:

The teapot is beautiful, especially if you like watching tea brew, but is very difficult to use. If it is not tightened properly, it leaks.

It came in a corrugated gift box which I would have loved to reuse for another gift, but it had a glued in insert to cradle the teapot, so that wasn't possible.

        Comments about Sorapot:

Tea and modern design are my top two passions, and this Sorapot is one of the most thoughtful gifts I've ever received. The artist made me see tea brewing in a whole new way, displaying the brewing tea leaves like an evolving sculpture. It also pours very smoothly and is the easiest teapot to clean I have ever encountered (the tube comes out completely and can just go into the dishwasher). The construction is very solid and even my parents, hardcore traditional tea afficianatos, are delighted by this design. The only downside is the small 11 oz capacity, about enough for two mugs of tea at a time. But if it were bigger, I don't think it would look quite as stunning.
