Cityscape

Part visual travel journal, part diary, artist Renée Leone's vibrant series of geographic watercolor paintings offers entrancing vistas as seen through the artist's eyes and felt through her heart. Renée combines her affinity for the geometric patterning used in textiles, mosaics, and stained glass to create personal home and building portraits that depict not only what she saw in a particular location, but, more significantly, what she felt.

In the SOHO neighborhood in New York City, Renee was first introduced to the buzz of lower Manhattan and was captivated by the incredible cast iron buildings, converted lofts, trendy shops, restaurants, and galleries that lined the streets.

Made in Chicago and hand signed.

Chicago-based watercolorist Renee Leone grew up in a long line of artists and art lovers. She always knew she was a creative soul, but it wasn’t until she was drawn to design school after college that she was certain she was a painter. Renee’s muse has always been the great outdoors. In her Travel Watercolor Series, she celebrates the emotional feeling spurred by taking in new landscapes. As Renee says, “From the vast open spaces, to the sprinklings of nature, to the dense foliage and canopies, I love stepping back and seeing what lies before me.”

Renee paints us a picture of how she works, on our blog.

    Comments about UncommonGoods SOHO:

My daughter lives near Soho and asked for this numbered print after seeing it online. Ii hesitated to purchase artwork online, but did anyway. We ordered it without a mat or frame and were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the paper and art. We were also able to mat and frame it more elegantly than offered online for less! I do most definitely recommend this artist and her work!
