Setting the Pace

Leave it to a snail to serve as a reminder to slow down. This stone and steel sculpture, designed by Nerio Festa and handmade in Northern California, is a natural indoors or out. Crafted by hand with the desire to minimize the effects of its production on the environment, each sculpture maintains a distinct look due to the individuality of the stones. The inspiring symbol of the "slow food" movement, whose philosophy entreats individuals to relax and enjoy the food they eat, this unhurried guest will enjoy spending time in your home. Over time spent outside, steel parts will naturally rust. Handmade in Northern California.

Nerio Festa

After moving to San Francisco in 1994, Nerio Festa began creating natural, artistic pieces with steel, recycled metal, stones and paper. His works are inspired by the vines in wine country.

Before starting his own company, Nerio, an Italian sculptor, designed and built furniture and custom interiors for home offices and sailing yachts.

Naturally occurring stones, polished smooth by centuries of ocean tides and rivers, are a central element in the his designs. The idea of using these varied stones in his work grew out of a trip to Encinitas, a storybook beach in Southern California. He took some stones home, placed them around the living room and began experimenting with "wrapping" them within rusted steel rods from his workshop and transforming them into functional art.
