small faceted pendantby Julie Moon
- the story
A Different Angle
Toronto-based ceramic artist Julie Moon creates contemporary art pieces with a sculptural edge. After a decade-long career working in the garment industry, Julie turned to ceramics to further explore her love of graphics and pattern, and to explore fashion as it relates to cultural expectations of beauty, identity, and gender. Each of her smooth, geometric pieces is formed by hand and is carefully painted to highlight the form's dimensionality.
In this petite faceted necklace as well as this large necklace and this pair of earrings, the angular porcelain "stones" resemble candy-colored geodes excavated from another world. Each piece's smooth sides are offset with bright washes of glossy paint in an atypical palette rich with lavender, tangerine, sea green, azure, lemon yellow, and more. Due to the handmade nature of this sculptural jewelry, every stony statement piece is a one-of-a-kind, wearable artwork. Handmade in Toronto, Canada.
