The Torgerson sisters started out on separate paths: Carly studied education and taught art in public schools, and Casey was a passionate environmentalist serving in AmeriCorps. But when Carly hit upon the idea of using reclaimed materials to create unique works of art, Casey was eager to join in the creative endeavor. Together they formed SoulShine Studio. They contacted local businesses for donations of scrap wood, paper and more, and discovered those companies were only too happy to have a way to reduce their waste and environmental impact. The unique, upcycled nature of those materials is displayed proudly in the design of each one of the sisters' colorful creations.

A Round of Song
Sisters Carly and Casey Torgerson were concerned by the needless waste they witnessed in the schools and businesses around them, but instead of just throwing up their hands, they fired up their creativity and began to transform the problem into unique works of art.
This piece, entitled "Sing for Tomorrow", is hand-signed and features a stylized, art deco face that exhales a joyous swirl of color and music. The hand-painted, mixed media work is created using reclaimed materials gathered from the artists' community, including unwanted sheet music from a local middle school, and a circular base donated by a stereo manufacturer, which had previously discarded these pieces of wood. The artwork comes ready to hang, with a reclaimed soda can pull tab as the mounting hardware. Handmade in Tallahassee, FL, and Minneapolis, MN.
Exclusively at UncommonGoods.
