During High School, designer Charles Friedman worked as a sail maker building and repairing boat sails on the coast of Maine. When his grandfather's leather wallet fell apart, Charles decided to construct a new one from sailcloth scraps and was pleasantly surprised to find that this water-resistant material is perfectly suited to swiftly navigate delicate possessions through the elements.
Built with the same high-tech racing sailcloth used by the world's sailing elite, the exterior of this unique sleeve is constructed out of tough, pre-consumer sailcloth made from durable carbon fiber and polyester matrixes. Distinguishd as some of the toughest, lightest, and most resilient cloths in the world, these core fibers have several times the tensile strength of steel. The interior is insulated with thick felt made from recycled plastic bottles. The inner and outer elements combine resulting in a striking case that provides your tablet with the ultimate protection from moisture, smudges, and scratches. Comfortably fits iPad 1 and 2, HP Touchpad, and Motorola Xoom 10 inch tablets. Handmade in Maine.

As a teenager Chuck worked building and repairing boat sails in Yarmouth, Maine. When his grandfather's old leather wallet fell apart, he crafted a new one from scrap sailcloth and the first flowfold wallet was born. Over the next six years, Chuck built hundreds of prototype wallets, carefully refining the flowfold design. In 2011 Chuck founded Flowfold as an ecologically conscious company interested in local productivity. Since earning a civil engineering degree from the University of Maine Chuck's been designing products and leading production at Flowfold. See all creations.

This iPad Sleeve is extra durable, because it's made of repurposed sail cloth. The outside is tough, but don't worry, the inside is soft felt made from recycled bottles! Would you stash your tablet or touch pad in this case?

Nice design, nice price. Is there any sort of tab to close the opening or is it strictly a sleeve? Either way, thumbs up.

Good question, Karen! The sleeve does have a Velcro closure.

Repurposed, Recycled, and Made in the USA - what's not to love? And it has a cool story! :)

I like it. It is a softer, more polished approach than the neoprene cover I currently use.

Love recycled products but I guess this isn't actually recycled but repurposed. Great idea though.

Maybe if I saw it and could feel it - it's hard to imagine recycled plastic bottles as soft felt? I'd be afraid it would scratch the i-pad

There is nothing about this item that I find attractive or appealing. Maybe if I were a sailor, this would be neat.
